If you have found this site in search of personal growth and change, you are now one step closer to having a more resilient and fulfilled life that is worth celebrating. People seek therapy for many reasons, and are often nervous or scared to take that first step. They may be hesitant to reveal their personal problems to a stranger, or they may have had a negative experience with therapy in the past. At The Center For Mind and Body Health, the goal is to provide you with a safe and confidential space to explore your needs using a unique holistic approach catered to you as an individual, couple, family, or group.
Many people don't know what the word holistic means or may have a negative connotation with the term. Holistic simply means looking at the person as a whole, rather than seeing the person as being broken down in individual parts.
Unfortunately in today’s society, we go to specialists to treat specific parts of the body and the mind that are causing us trouble. This means that we go to providers who only address our problems in one region of the body and ignore the rest of our self. The problem with this approach is that mental and physical illnesses have a broad effect on the body and the mind, and often directly influence our ability to function. All physical illnesses have some effect on the mind, influencing our moods, emotions, and thoughts. For example, pain and fatigue often result in stress, poor concentration and memory, and negative thinking. The same can be said of mental impacts on the body. For example, stress can lead to tension headaches and ulcers, panic attacks increase our heart rate and breathing, and depression often impacts our energy levels and can cause widespread pain. Lifestyle and wellness factors also have a direct effect on our mental and physical functioning, such as dietary and nutritional aspects that can alter your physical body and influence brain chemicals involved in our mood.
Holistic mental health teaches us to access and use our mind-body connection to heal physical illness and pain through stress reduction, relaxation techniques, enhanced coping skills, and lifestyle changes. All of these have been clinically proven to boost immune functioning, reduce inflammation, and aid in healthy body processes such as digestion and sleep. By using the mind to have a positive impact on the body though the mind-body connection, we can heal ourselves quickly and naturally leading to long-term success.
At The Center For Mind and Body Health, a holistic approach increases your chances of healing by addressing the person as a whole. Numerous individual factors and characteristics are considered including mental and physical health, lifestyle and wellness factors, and social and spiritual aspects. This approach allows for a unique view of individual needs and allows us to feel better, faster. In fact, many clients feel a positive change in the first few sessions, and on average are able to complete therapy in 3-4 months.
